The operas at Tete a Tete at the Riverside were great last night. The first, Hidden Valley, was 90mins long. We had front seats and could watch the band - piano, harp and prcussion/vibes. The story was quite traditional - the daughter of the divine king Modred falls in love with a mortal etc - quite Shakespearean. Performers and musicians were great and included Kerry Andrew amongst the chorus. She wrote the community opera Woodwose which I saw at the Wigmore Hall a few weeks back. The second opera was only 30 mins and was written by Kerry Andrews. There was a 4 piece of piano, elec gtr, clarint/bass clarinet and percussion. The musical conception was more advanced in this piece - quite Feldmanesque. The theme was wildwater swimming and the reaction of the river spirits. Steph is going to Edb today and so couldnt linger. I had a couple of glasses in the usual Hammersmith pub. I have been working through the yellow John Coltrane yellow book. Even the II V lines are inspiring.
