Lower & Longer and Bandslam Fabrication 2 are new on the upper widget - do try them out.

Hanslick has attracted more interest lately it seems. At one stage he was regarded as a blinkered conservative and dismissed. Now he is being re-evaluated, partly because he is one of the best examples of musical formalism. He believed that the essence of music was moving tonal forms. This can be probed in all sorts of ways - are tonal forms the only kind of musical form that counts? What is it that creates the appearance of a musical form moving? Does it have to be harmonic pressure? I have ordered Hanne Appelqvest's book on musical formalism and Wittgenstein - even though it was rather expensive.

I read an interesting article yesterday about poetic form and modernism. The author suggested that Victorian poets had been very innovative - so much so that there wasnt much that modernist poets could do formally to distinguish themselves.
